Our Medical Director

In 2011, Sumner Regional Medical Center named Jeff Kindred, D.O., a family medicine physician who was fellowship-trained in Sports Medicine at the University of Notre Dame,  the medical director of SRMC’s BodyGuard Sports Medicine program.

Dr. Kindred is first non-surgical sports medicine physician in Sumner County. He completed medical school at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, Mo., completed his residency at Saint Joseph Family Medicine, South Bend, Ind., and completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend.  He is board certified in both family and sports medicine.

“Each of us, young and old, can be athletes, it is just a matter of getting out and being active,” said Kindred. “Although my training has been focused on athletes of all ages, musculoskeletal injuries are very common in the workplace and in everyday life. Each of us will encounter musculoskeletal injuries, whether sport related or not, and the majority of these are non-surgical. I hope to care for both athletes and non-athletes alike who have a musculoskeletal injury or problem that needs evaluation. My goal is to get my patients back to what they would like to be doing as quickly as we can.”

Dr. Kindred’s special areas of interest include injury prevention, concussion management, diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, platelet rich plasma therapy and ultrasound-guided injections. While working as a team physician at the University of Notre Dame, he received additional training in the Functional Movement Screen, which is being studied to help predict pre-season injury risk.

His previous experience includes event and training room coverage in both men’s and women’s sports at University of Notre Dame, including men’s football, basketball, soccer, hockey and boxing, women’s soccer, and cross country/track and field.  He also served as the team physician for Mishawaka High School, and treated patients at both the University of Notre Dame Student Health Center and Saint Mary’s Student Health Center while completing his fellowship.

He is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Physicians, among others.  Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Dr. Kindred, his wife and two children have relocated to Sumner County and look forward to becoming involved in the community.
